My opinion of the Dresden books is coloured heavily on my opinions of the characters and my relative dislike for both Thomas and Mouse. *waves Mister flag* But I know I'm in the minority and just have to deal with them. I would like nothing more than Mouse to go the way of Susan though.
Kitai is very much Tavi's keeper. And her conversations with Isana had me rolling. And Jim writes her so very well. I have adored Kitai since we first met the little whelp.
Heh...I like both Mouse and Mister...Thomas is a character type I have a weakness for(though...I didn't care abouthim until we knew he was Harry's brother...make of that what you will...)
I loved Kitai from the stat, too, and at first I wasn't sue Butcher would be nice enough to give us Tavi/Kitai, but he was. Really, though, Butcher's just really good at creating great characters and relationships, romantic or otherwise.
Now if only Harry and Murphy could work out their issues. <3's them together.
I am slightly surprised Sextus didn't mention anything about Kitai when he had his little "talk" with Tavi at the end. He never saw Isana as someone suitable for Septimus, so will he see Kitai as suitable for Octavian? Not that he really has a choice here.
Well, he never really had the chance to see Isana as a suitable candidate, to be fair. If Septimus hadnt' died, he may have accepted Isana in time. But even so, I think he has Tavi as evidence that sometimes you should just let their kids make their own choices. I wonder how much he actually knows about Kitai. He may just think it's a casual thing, instead of as permanent as it gets. But Kitai is the daughter of a leader of her people, so Sextus may just be able to accept it as a political thing.
And Harry and Murphy definately ned to get their things sorted out and get around to making buttkicking babies that will one day rule the world.
And Kitai is an Ambassador for her people, so that's helpful. And Isana thought it casual too, so yeah, until either Kitai or Tavi can explain, not many people will understand exactly what their relationship entails.
And thinking of Isana and Kitai's conversation makes me think of the Doroga/Walker comment and gets me laughing all over again. "Walker would not allow it." *giggle*
I half wonder if part of the reason Kitai talks the way she does is to throwthe casual observer off the "he's mine and i'm never giving him to anyone else" scent. Oh man...the Doroga/Walker comment almost killed me...
One wonders ho much influence Bob will have on the kids...or if Murphy will shatter the skull the first tim Bob tries to give one sex education.
I think, as Isana figured, at first Kitai was just teasing her. Though, as she said, the answers to Isana's questions were in there. You just had to look for them.
I don't think Murph will let Bob have much contact with the kids, at least not until they're older. And yes, I do foresee skull smashing if Bob attempts to give "the talk." There would also be a husband sleeping on a couch if that were to happen.
Kitai lives to tease. She'll die of disappointment if anyone ever DOESN'T rise to the bait.
I can just picture the "later" conversation if Bob ever tried anything.
"Honey, where's Bob?"
"He taught Charlie to say 'boobie.'"
"... ... ...Do I need to sweep the basement?"
"Yes."
Murphy is probably going to have EXTREMELY strict rules about who can andcan't come around...Thomas will probably only get away with it by virtue of being family. Morgan will be banned for eternity.
And if Tavi ever actually tells her something of importance before she's already worked it out for herself...well, the world may end. (I do hope she's going with him to the Canim lands. They won't survive a year apart).
Kinda hope one of the kids doesn't inherit Harry's power, so that Murph isn't the only 'normal' one.
I'm sure Kitai will make sure she goes to the Canim lands for him. Actually...COULD she(literally) survive a year away from him, with that much distance?
Personally, I think Murphy is the one who will get the sword Harry's safeguarding. Or maybe the "normal" kid would be the person for it.
She was having troubles being from Calderon to Alera Imperia away from him, and it didn't take her long to follow him with the Legion. And since he made the Marat Cohort part of the First Aleran, they can legally go with him. She's going. Definitely.
I do hope Murphy gets the sword. I've been thinking that for 3 books or so. And since the demotion, it seems to make more sense. It would be easier for her to give up CPD for the sword now than when she was the head of SI.
D'oh. Kakashi. It's what happens when the main character causes you to flee in terror from a manga, despite your love forthe rest of the cast. Kakashi is like a less high strung version of Magatsu, my One True Manga Love.
I don't think Tavi will be ALLOWED to lave without Kitai, bond or no bond. That's her personal property there.
Murphy is becoming more and more involved in Harry's world, and is going to be as deeply into it as Harry isbefore long. It's only fitting that she's given the tools ofthe trade.
I've never read the manga for Naruto, but I watch the anime (japanese with eng sub). Kakashi is my favourite character. And I don't mind Naruto...he just occasionally needs to be ignored.
Ahh, yes, true. Where would he be without her to tell him he's being stupid? He doesn't listen to Max. :)
Just give the woman a chainsaw, she'll be fine. (Though the sword is prettier). As long as Molly or Thomas don't get it.
I watch a ton of anime, but I'm more a manga person than an anime person, really. Kakashi wasthebest thing about the series, though(followed by Shikamaru)
I can't begin to see Molly getting the sword. Thomas I can half see getting it, but I don't think he will. Murphy will be fine with any weapon known to any race, I think.
See, he listened to Max until Kitai took over ownership and just did a much better job of it. Max also has toned it down since becoming Tavi's subordinate, but Kitai doesn't believe in such things.
The only manga I keep up with are Fruits Basket and YuYu Hakusho. Kakahsi is first, with Gaara coming in second. And I'm fairly picky on the anime I watch.
Murphy getting the sword just makes a lot of sense. Especially with how Harry Sees her with his Sight.
True, he did listen to Max while they were at the Academy. But Kitai rules him so much better. Kitai could care less for the Aleran chain of command. He's hers and she'll do with him as she pleases. Whether he's a furyless farm boy, a Captain of a Legion, or next in line for the throne. ...as long as he keeps doing those wonderful things with his mouth...
Fruits Basket is great and was one of my first mangas. Yu Yu Hakusho is one I've always been turned off of, for whatever reason.
I'm not sure Kitai even acknowledges thatthe Aleran chain of command exists...I think it'sjust some annoying thing that causes Tavi stress, as far as she's concerned.
YYH was the first anime I got into. Something about it drew me in. Maybe the impossible situations overlayed with stupid humor. FB is always good. Though I wish they'd done a second season with the anime. I just picked up vol. 18, though I think I neglected to read 17, so it'll give me something to do a little later.
There are times (like now), that even Tavi seems to feel that way.
I'm amused that we're having two other conversations in these comments that are not Alera related. :)
I believe it wasn't read because a friend nabbed it from me and read it herself. BTW, who is on the cover of 18? Is it Kazuma Sohma? (Kyo's adoptive father) If so, he looked much better before the haircut.
I wished at times that Kitai would whack him upside the head and drag him off. Though for much dirtier reasons than the headaches in his life.
Now that I think about it...it is pretty common practice for me also.
Hmm...I haven't read it yet and I'm at work, so I'm not sure, but that SOUNDS right for the FB character.
I don't think the WHY of the whacking and dragging is as important as the whacking and dragging itself...we know what he'll e up to as soon as she has him all alone(and she will only wait for his poor, poor modesty's sake)
here's the cover art: http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41lfDMs73kL._AA240_.jpg
Even Max knows what happens after the whacking and dragging, as he assumed that's what was going on back in the Elinarch while he and the rest of the First Aleran were getting drenched out in the field, when in all actuality he was heaving his guts up on a boat. (With Kitai curled up at his feet)
Yup, that's Shishou. He actually looks like an older Kyo with the h aircut(always liked him.)
And really, where else would Kitai be when her Aleran was having a bad day? Sadly, it was an impediment to fun things that she could not kill or traumatize.
